Vet Teams are Southeast Division teams First barring a complete collapse of these teams, you have to think Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and Montreal for ditches the playoffs. You can probably even Boston inch
The rest of the conference is pretty wide open. The only teams who have little chance Tampa and Toronto.
The Southeast Division is wide open. It is also a division likely to send only one team to the playoffs. First to fourth place was separated by a measly 5 points, and the 4th place team Florida played two matches fewer than division leader Carolina. That would, in Florida have a good chance at the playoffs for the first time in 8 years. On the other hand, there is the team of the listless play of late, only 4 victories in 14 contests and as of today Palm Beach Post . The Panthers, who return to action tonight against Buffalo following the All-Star break, say they are determined to end their agonizing playoff drought.
But some observers think that the Panthers not exhibited enough determination to the post-season for the first time since April 2000.
For more short, some critics think they are tender.
“This team plays too much on the perimeter, I have not seen that momentum for their nose dirty and do the dirty work,” said NHL broadcaster John Vanbiesbrouck, who starred in the nets for the Panthers when the Stanley Cup finals in 1996.
“Winning is not easy. You are dealing with your spirit you will do what is necessary to go and play like that every night.” I am not quite sure if Vanbiesbrouck is good in what he says. Florida has blown at least five games this year in the last minute of play. They also played games where they either stop or showed little effort. I have missed only a handful of games on television this year, Florida has the talent to win the division and even a place in the playoffs. The only teams I have to worry about the conference in Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Carolina and Toronto (Maple Leaf oversized defensemen seem to intimidate the Panthers) when Florida faces.
I question whether the Panthers have the desire, and perhaps the coaching. Why the hell has the team send Shawn Matthias back to the minors ? He scored two goals in four NHL games, including two Jacques Martin hardly played him in, and 21 in 32 games OHL play for his callup. I prefer Matthias on the grid than the overrated Brett McLean of Kamil Kreps. Indeed, Kreps just 4 goals in 45 games played!
Boy do I get gloomy about this Panthers team.
